If you are wondering why your website users are not returning and linking to you as much as you want, try to get in their heads. Pretend you are a new visitor to your website.

What do you notice? As a new visitor, would you know what the topic and purpose of the website is? Would you be able to understand the navigation? Would the website seem helpful? Would it help you find the answers to your questions about the topic? Where does it draw your attention? Does it even grab your attention? Is it interesting or boring?

If you can understand what your visitors are probably thinking, then you can better customize the website to appeal to them.

You want a website that will grab their interest and keep them looking around. You want a website that provides a useful service or product that people want, so that they come to you for it and so that they tell their friends about it. If you have a content-based website (like this blog), then what you need to provide is information or entertainment. Most importantly, your visitors need to be made aware of what your website is providing.

If your promotion methods are not working well, then the most likely problem is on-site. Your website is probably not grabbing visitors’ interest and getting other webmasters to link to you.

Business training is an important part of any business. Avand offers business-related courses. They are even moving into Management Training.

Training is good for both owners, managers, and other employees. The investment you spend learning new skills will pay off in the long-term.

You can use training to learn a new trade so you can sell a new service to make more money. You can also use training to make your business more efficient and productive. For example, a business can increase its sales by getting sales training for its sales people.

Taking training courses is also a great way to improve your résumé. And the training will help you succeed for whatever purpose you may use the résumé.

Overall, I am very supportive of the use of training. At the very least, it cannot hurt. In fact, having new skills has to help in some way.

If you have a blog, I think the best way to promote it is by commenting on other blogs. You can also promote non-blog websites this way, but I believe it especially works well for blogs.

When you comment on a blog, almost all blogs have a field for your URL. When your comment is published, a link to your website will be published with it. If your comment is very interesting or helpful, then the people who read it may check your link.

The person most likely to check out your link is the blog owner. If you have a blog, you probably check the website of people who regularly post quality comments on your blog.

For this promotion method to work well, you have to remember two main points.

Firstly, make good comments. Most importantly, do not spam. Your comment needs to be specific to the post. It needs to be useful. It could be useful by being interesting, informative, or helpful. You probably want to keep the tone of the blog. Also, you probably want to keep a positive tone and be polite because you represent your website.

Secondly, you need to have a good website. Blog commenting will usually not bring in that many visitors directly. If you have a bad, useless website, then the few people who do come will not stay long and will not tell anyone else about it. In contrast, if you have a great website, then the people who come will stay longer, come back more often, and tell their friends about your website. Since the bloggers will probably come check out your website, they will likely post about your website on their blog if your website is really that good and helpful.

Take this blog for example. You all come here because I provide helpful advice and information. If everyday I just came on here and typed gibberish, nobody would read this blog or share the link to it.

So, remember, post great comments and make your own website great.

Email Marketing04 Mar 2008 02:58 pm

I think email marketing is much less effective than it used to be. Spam email has become to prevalent, and email users have found other ways to communicate. Nonetheless, it still helps to get the email address of users.

Make sure you let them opt-in. Don’t just go around buying email addresses and sending emails to people who did not agree to get them. Also, make sure you include a way for the recipients to unsubscribe. Taking those two steps will make sure your emails are not considered spam.

I find it better not to send out too many emails. I know personally that I start to ignore email lists that send me a bunch of emails with offers. However, if an email list sends me useful emails every now and then, I will pay more attention to them. If one of the emails includes an offer, I am more likely to consider the offer.

There are a few ways to turn your blogs RSS feed into an email subscription. I use that on my other two most major blogs. (I don’t use it on this one because webmasters almost always use RSS.) Collecting emails can be very helpful. You can use email newsletters to get old traffic back to your website. If you have a big enough email list, you can use it to market relevant products.

What do you think? Do you use email marketing?

There are many advantages to being self-employed, but there are also some disadvantages. The lack of health insurance is a big drawback. Most people get their health insurance through their job. Everyone else, including self-employed people, must find some health insurance on their own. Luckily, you can get coverage from Kaiser Permanente health care.

You can use their website to get quotes. They give quotes to both individuals and families. You can also get group quotes if you have a small business.

The coverage includes doctor visits, hospital care, prescription drugs, and more. Perhaps most importantly, their health insurance also covers surgery and emergency services.

A healthy person can survive for a while without going to the doctor, but anyone is at risk of suffering from an unexpected health emergency. Without insurance, you could end up with massive amounts of debt from a medical emergency. Even worse, you may not get the health care that you need.

Kaiser offers different plans and different quotes. Deductibles and copayments vary from plan to plan, so you can find that plan that’s best for you. If you do not want a high monthly payment, you can probably take a plan that has higher deductibles and copayments. That will protect you if you get unlucky and get hit with a very large medical expense.

Overall, Kaiser Permanente seems like a great health coverage provider. With the prices of health care nowadays, it is dangerous not to have coverage.

If you have a blog or a forum, you can get publicity and comments by using controversial topics.

You do not even have to take a side on the issue. You can inspire comments and links simply by bringing up a controversial topic.

If you do decide to take a side, I would recommend that you express your opinions in a polite and politically correct way. You do not want to offend your regular users.

A controversial topic is a topic about which people tend to have a lot of strong opinions. These include such topics as abortion, assisted suicide, and most political topics. Of course, it is best if you use a controversial topic related to your niche. For example, often times a topic might be controversial to your target users while it is not of much interest to others. That is ideal.

I think that the best way to end a post about a controversial topic is to ask for opinions from your readers. End your post by posing a few questions about the topic to your readers.

If you are selling products online, you will probably need ecommerce software. AmeriCommerce provides powerful shopping cart software and hosting. Their shopping cart software comes with many built-in features.

SEO is very important when you have an online store. You can make more sales by getting traffic from the search engines. AmeriCommerce understands the importance of SEO, and they even say on their website that their shopping cart is the most search engine friendly cart available.

Their software will also extensively log user activity, which you can use to better optimize your online store to increase your sales.

Another great feature is that you can manage multiple stores from one administration page.

They publish their phone number right on the homepage of their website, which is a sign of trustworthiness to me.

The shopping cart software can help you track inventory and manage prices. It can also keep track of sales and other records for you. So that will greatly help you manage your ecommerce business.

If you want to see AmeriCommerce’s shopping cart software in action, they have a list of featured clients on their website.

All in all, the AmeriCommerce shopping cart software seems like a really great product.

I have a new tip for you today: Feel free to use third-party payment processors such as PayPal or Google Checkout.

You can get your own merchant account. If you process a lot of payments, it will probably be cheaper. But if you do not do that many, it may cost more because there is usually a lot of setup fees. Also, it takes a lot more technical knowledge.

For a newer and smaller internet business, you may think having your own merchant account will make you look more reliable. But it may scare potential customers, making them not buy from you. If your company does not have a big reputation, people may not want to give you their credit card numbers. Major third-party processors such as PayPal are trusted by customers.

I would recommend sticking with third-party processors until your business is big enough to warrant going through the trouble of getting your own merchant account.

What do you think?

Also, please note that I am not endorsing any specific company or processor. I personally use PayPal, but only because I believe it is most well-known to my customers. You want to do your own research, and find the payment processor that is best for your specific business.

If you sell anything, you can generally benefit from leads. “Leads” usually refers to potential customers that you have a reason to believe would be especially interested in your product. For example, if you sell cars, leads would be people who have expressed a need to buy a new car. The Lead Dogs specialize in providing qualified lead generation for business-to-business sales.

The Lead Dogs will help you generate leads and then develop them into sales. They also work to qualify the leads to determine which ones are sales-ready.

One thing that seems especially good about The Lead Dogs is that they have worked with big companies and understand the importance of handling big leads. For some business models, thousands of dollars in revenue could rest on any given sale.

Any business can benefit from taking customer feedback. So remember that when running an internet business.

The great thing about having a website or internet business is that your customers can give you feedback very easily. You can simply have a contact form on your website, for example. They can type up their message and send it to you in the click of a mouse.

If you have a content-based website, then your website users are generally your customers. You can get feedback from them about how to improve your website. Ask them what type of new features they want for the website. Ask them what other information they would like the website to offer.

Of course, if you also sell anything, then the people who buy your product are also customers. Try sending a feedback form with the product or with the receipt. You can get feedback not only on the product itself, but also on your customer service in general.

Remember to take criticism constructively. Customers are often nice and helpful, but sometimes they can just be mean and insulting. Even when they are mean, do not be mean back. Always be professional and do what will best help your business.

And so it goes without saying: Feel free to post feedback to me about this website any time! Thanks!

Your credit will likely come up during your business endeavors. You may need loans or financing for certain business investments or if you need to buy something. If you want some for personal purposes, you may need a loan. For example, if you wanted a car you may need to research Bad Credit Auto Loans.

Completeloansource.com provides information about loans. You can apply online at their website.

They also have helpful information about Bad Credit Personal Loans. Those are personal loans for people with no credit or poor credit. Personal loans usually refer to smaller loans given without collateral.

Complete Loan Source has other information about various types of loans, including car loans, payday loans, debt consolidation loans, and so on and so forth.

Running an internet business may make it harder for you to get loans than other people because your income will usually be considered unverifiable. Lenders usually want to see proof of pay from your employer to determine how much they will lend you, but being self-employed makes that difficult. Lenders specializing in bad credit can sometimes help self-employed people even if the self-employed people otherwise have good credit.
