When making a new website or business, you need to pick a niche. In other words, you choose the subject or topic of your website.

You want to make the topic of your website specific. By focusing on a specific subject, you can become an “authority website” on that topic. Obviously, a single website cannot become an “authority website” on every subject.

You want to find an underdeveloped niche. In other words, you want to find a niche that has less websites about it in relation to its popularity. If enough websites and online businesses about a certain topic already exist, then we call that market saturation. You generally do not want to get into a saturated market because you will have stiff competition. You want to provide something that people want but cannot already get just as easily.

If you think of a good subject but notice websites like that already exist, you can try going for a sub-category in that niche. For example, say you wanted to make a website about dogs but notice many already exist; you could then check the subcategory of dog training; if no websites already existed specifically about dog training, you could make one.

Most of all, you want to find a niche that you like. Try to think of what interests you and what you already know.

Running an internet business may sound simple enough, but running any business takes a lot of mental skills. As a business owner you have to make decisions about all aspects of your business. This differs from being an employee who just has to do manual labor or specialize in a specific task for the business. If you want to improve your business skills you may consider taking a business intelligence course, such as the online ones offered by Saint Joseph’s University.

When taking any online courses from an online school, you want to make sure the school is accredited. The degree from an unaccredited school means little to nothing because anyone can issue a degree. A degree from an unaccredited school will not do your resume any good, and the education probably won’t be as good (or otherwise the school would probably have gotten accredited).

School can be expensive, but it can also be worth more than it costs. It can help you earn more money throughout the rest of your life. Also, some employers will help pay for their employees’ college courses. If you currently have an employer, check with them to see if they have any programs like that.

If you spend a lot of time on computers or if have your own business, you probably deal a lot with printers. When it comes to computer printers, the biggest annoyance for me is ink cartridges. They can be very expensive. Also, if your ink cartridge runs out of ink when you do not have a spare cartridge on hand, then you will find yourself without a functional printer in the middle of a printing job.

Inkshop.co.uk is one web store that offers discount prices on ink cartridges. If you do not live in the UK, you will probably need to find a web store in your own country. I recommend shopping online to save money. You can compare prices from different web stores and find the best deal.

Always keep at least one or two extra cartridges on hand so that you don’t get stuck with an inkless printer when you need to print something. Of course, I would also be uneasy about buying too many cartridges at once. They are expensive, and you wouldn’t want to find out you wasted your money on them if your printer breaks down before you use them. Also, remember to be careful when ordering from any online store. Make sure the store is legitimate, and make sure you get the right cartridges for your printer.

One of my most important tips to fellow internet business entrepreneurs is this: Prioritize your work!

I cannot believe how much that has helped me. Most internet businesses are one-man (or one-woman) operations. You have to split your time between work and your personal life and personal obligations. This usually means that you do not work the same times each day, and that you do not work the same number of hours each day. You may put 10 hours of work in today and only 5 hours tomorrow. You may work at night today, and in the morning tomorrow.

List each task that you have to do. If you do the same tasks each day, list all your daily tasks down. Then organize them from most important to least important. Whenever you go to get some work done, simply work from the top of the list down to the bottom. By doing that, no matter how much work you get done, you will have gotten the most important work done.

Here is a nice tip for you to improve your website or internet business. Ask for feedback! Ask your customers or website visitors to give you comments and suggestions. They can tell you what they don’t like about your website, and they can tell you what new features they would like to see. This is good in two ways. Firstly, it helps you understand your customers desires better. Secondly, it gives you free suggestions that are usually very specific.

When you are starting an internet business, there are certain notions that will require conscious thought. Things like how to advertise your business and where as well as who do you need to help get it off the ground. While starting an internet business may seem like a daunting task, it is no different than starting a traditional business in the real world.

While traditional businesses require advertising, it is usually done with a shotgun approach. You shoot advertising all over the place and hope to grab someone’s attention with your message. By default, your advertising for a traditional business will be focused on the geographic area in which your business is located. You must also adjust pricing to meet what your market will bear.

When starting an internet business, your market can be less focused on location since your business will be global. You will also need to be more descriptive in your product presentation as people will not be able to touch and feel the items and will have to rely on what you say about them. You not only have to market the what but also the how and why. Getting people to part with their money through an internet net business involves selling the business as well as an individual product or service.

Many old-style sales persons know that the biggest part of sales is selling yourself. People who can make a potential buyer feel comfortable with them have a higher success rate. Those who simply sell the product can usually experience a certain success if they are selling a worthwhile product, but experiencing growth may be limited.

Once you have chosen the type of business you want to start and the people who will work with you, your marketing plan will need to be executed. Once you have made your announcement and made the promise of what you will do, you need to do what you have promised. Customer service needs to be more than a promise, it needs to be a way of life. Unlike a traditional business, on the internet you will never be the only game in town. If you make mistakes with customer service there will be hundreds, if not thousands of other businesses ready to take your place.

Many traditional businesses eventually fail because they are not willing to change with the shopping habits of their customers. The product mix may become stale or new competition may offer merchandise the old store does not and since success has been around for years, many do not see the need to change.

With an internet business, changes are required almost daily and there is no real harm in looking at your competition to see what they are offering and some of the ideas may be worth mimicking. However, make sure any new ideas you implement are filled with you personal touch to keep your customers satisfied with you.

The truth is that the simple fact of writing the articles is enough to dissuade most people from working in this niche. Therefore there are still plenty of keywords that you can openly target with your articles. More and more professionals, even those with a stable job, are looking for alternative ways to earn money. This is maybe because they are not satisfied with what they are getting from their regular jobs or maybe simply because they want to earn extra money.

And because we are now living in the information age and the age of the Internet, most of these individuals are using the World Wide Web to look for additional income.

For anyone who has ever searched for money-making opportunities online, he or she knows that the web is full resources on how to earn money. One just have to type the word “earn money” or “business opportunity” on the search bar of a popular search engine such as Google, Yahoo or Microsoft Network and he or she will be returned with millions of websites on making money.

These websites offer different opportunities to make money, from multi-level marketing, to transcribing, to filling out online surveys, to creating websites. Almost all promise that you will earn huge amounts of money if you sign up on their site. Most of these sites though require membership fees so it entails some form of commitment.

Because of the number of opportunities online, it is not unusual for anyone to get confused as to what opportunities to consider. The best thing to do to minimize the confusion is to do some research. You could do this by simply asking around from your own network of friends and acquaintances. You could also try to compare the different websites available and go for the one which makes the most sense to you or the one that best matches your skills and interest.

One of the most popular ways to make money online is through affiliate marketing. What people must know about affiliate marketing is at the first few months it is possible that you would not make money. But after three or four months you will notice that the money will begin to pour in.

It is not uncommon for affiliate marketers to make $23,000 to $25,000 in their first year with a return of investment or ROI of just over 100%. This is not a bad result for individuals who only got into affiliate marketing as a source of extra income.

There are many valuable resources on the Web that could help affiliate marketers improve their income. There are numerous affiliate marketing forums and coaching sites with individuals available to give advice to affiliate marketers especially new ones.

The advisers are men and women who are already successful affiliate marketers and who now want to help others become successful in affiliate marketing. These individuals are more than willing to assist any new affiliate marketers.

If you want to earn lots of money and become successful in affiliate marketing then the best thing that can do is to learn from these successful affiliate marketers and copy their actions. You could also learn by reading books on affiliate marketing and related subjects. Such books are also readily available on the Internet. There are also numerous software programs that could help you in your quest to earn more money.

Remember, that in any business endeavor it is important that you put your heart in it for it to be really successful. The same is true for online business opportunities such as affiliate marketing.

Ok, you’ve purchased one of those money-maker products and it’s giving you all sorts of ideas for making money online. Now what?

Although it’s possible to generate Internet income without a website, you’ll eventually want one or even several so you can get listed in search results. But don’t forget, search engines love to send visitors to content-rich websites, so you’ll want to cram your sites with useful information. Here’s how it works… Good content impresses your visitors, who are then coaxed into buying.

What can you do to boost your fledgling online business? Study and learn, and then keep studying and learning! I know it sounds like work, but competition on the Internet is fierce and soon only the very knowledgeable will succeed. You can make yourself one of the success stories.

Here’s how to build a website business that will put more online cash in your pocket.

Step 1: Buy a product that includes a free, starter website.

Some money-making products offer a free website after you purchase the package. It’s a great start for your Internet empire, so take advantage of the offer.

Recommended: “Adwords Miracle”, “The Ultimate Wealth Package”, “The Rich Jerk”.

Step 2: Use Adwords ads to get traffic to your website in a hurry.

Check out books from the library or book stores to get familiar with Google Adwords (that’s the name of Google’s pay-per-click (PPC) ad program). These ads appear in the “Sponsored Links” area, to the right of web search results.

How does Adwords work? You pick targeted keywords and write a brief ad to entice your visitors to click. It’s the quickest way to get traffic to your website, but it will cost you. You bid on the keywords you want your ad to be listed for and pay the bid price each time a visitor clicks on your ad.

Recommended: If you have the money, buy at least one information product that teaches the basics of PPC advertising and gives you some insight into the techniques professional marketers use. Two excellent products are “Adwords Miracle” and “Beating Adwords”.

Step 3: Learn some HTML and put Adsense ads on your websites.

You will want to adjust and adapt your websites to add more income-producing content. For example, Google has a free program called Adsense where you place Google Adwords ads on your web pages. Google gives you the instructions making it easy to place Adsense ads on your web pages, as long as you know basic HTML.

Adsense ads are matched to the content on your pages so they’re relevant to your website and of interest to your visitors. If someone clicks on an Adsense ad from your website you get credit for the click at approximately 50% of the per-click cost the ad owner pays Google.

Here’s the benefit of Adsense: if your visitors aren’t ready to buy the products on your website, they may want to click on a relevant Adsense ad instead. If they do, you get some income to offset the cost of any Adwords ad they clicked to get to your site in the first place. In fact, some people actually make a living from Adsense revenue. You could be one of them!

Recommended: Your public library has books and CD-ROMs that can train you in basic HTML. If you prefer online instruction, try the free courses at W3Schools: (http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_intro.asp). For Adsense information: (https://www.google.com/adsense/).

Step 4: Become fluent in SEO (Search Engine Optimization.)

This is a fancy phrase that simply means adjusting the content and some of the HTML to make your websites more appealing to search engines, like Google, Yahoo and MSN. Search engines look for keyword-rich content and certain HTML tags to determine the topic of your site. The more “search engine friendly” you make your website, the higher you will appear in the search results. But why bother, if you’re forking-out cash to have Adwords ads send traffic to your site?

Consider this… Statistics show that searchers trust and click normal search engine results more than Adwords ads. So, if you tweak your site a little bit you will eventually get FREE search placement. Instead of clicking on one of your expensive Adwords ads, a prospective customer will see your website listed in the general search results and click there instead. That, my friend, is a NO COST click! Well worth a little study and some massaging of your website content and HTML.

Recommended: SitePro News. Sign up for their free newsletter about site promotion and search engine optimization at http://www.sitepronews.com. This is a quality site that won’t spam you.

Step 5: Repeat, then repeat again.

Once you’ve mastered the above strategies, you simply create more websites using what you’ve learned. Check the money-making product you originally bought for ideas for website topics and products to sell.

Your Strategy Summary.

Ok, let’s review how the whole process works. Here’s what you do:

(1) Buy a money-making product with a free website that jump-starts your online business.

(2) Use Adwords to generate quick traffic to your website.

(3) Put Adsense ads on your site to offset your Adwords costs.

(4) Tweak your HTML and website content to improve your search engine placement and visitor interest.

(5) Create more websites using the free site as a template and duplicate your success, over and over again.

That’s how money is made on the Internet. There’s no real trick to it, you simply go from one successful website to another, earning a little money from each one. With some study and a certain amount of work, you’ll eventually own a website empire that generates enough cash for you to make a comfortable online living.

A friend of mine had a job selling ad space for a local newspaper. He once sold a tiny ad to a delicatessen owner in a suburban shopping mall. The deli man put on extra staff the day the ad came out to cope with all the extra customers… who never showed.

It may have been because the ad was a dud. But it’s more likely that one tiny ad simply isn’t enough to build sales. The deli man didn’t know what all successful marketers know. As Jay Conrad Levinson so clearly explained in Guerrilla Marketing, “marketing is a process and not an event”.

Many business owners I talk have an event mindset when it comes to the web. They believe a website is a marketing silver bullet. They think all they have to do is get the site on the Web and the phone will start ringing and the orders pouring in. Unfortunately that rarely happens.

Getting the site built is just the beginning. You need to generate targeted traffic by search engine optimisation and/or marketing and offline promotion, you need to ensure you provide the right information to convert that traffic, you need to ensure you have sufficient functionality to satisfy customer needs, and you need to track performance and ROI.

Some prospects aren’t ready to buy right now or need warming up before they’ll convert. So you may need some stay-in-touch marketing, such as e-newsletters, email mini-courses, and downloadable reports or white papers. And you’ll need to update the content from time to time to keep the site looking fresh.

Your website is not an event. Think of it as a work in progress. Consider how your website can benefit your organisation over the long run. Make a wish list of the things you’d have on your ideal website. You may not have the resources or budget to do them all now, but you can build your site up over time.

Review your site’s content regularly. Ask for customer input and feedback on your site. What do people like/dislike? What would they like to see on your website? Fine tune your site to incorporate the best features of competitors’ sites and other sites you like.

If you do this your site will be more successful than the vast majority of business sites on the web. Slowly but surely you’ll transform your do-nothing site into a revenue generating asset.

In order to be successful in building an online business you must have many variables in place. Running any type of business, be it online or the traditional type, can be a challenge. It takes a lot of guts, ingenuity, perseverance, and so much more. You have issues to deal with on an ongoing basis. You may even have to make adjustments as you go along.

Building a successful online business takes character and perseverance because you will have to face many obstacles in your path. You will be looking at legal, physical, mental, and emotional issues, not including dealing with personnel (if you have a staff).

When running a business online, you don’t have the same problems or concerns as you would offline. However, you still have to contend with issues like spam, marketing, advertising, keeping up with your competition, and more.

The main premise behind building a successful online business is your continued focus on building a client base. You can do this by word-of-mouth advertising, placing banner ads, using pay-per-click advertising, doing joint ventures, email marketing, and many other areas too numerous to mention. Your main objective is to get your business in front of the public so they can see what you do and can take action to obtain what you have. You may have to place ads and test them constantly to make sure that they are performing effectively.

There are many methods to get your business the exposure that it needs. Online marketing, advertising, newsgroups, forums, ezines, and lists can help to get your business and products seen.

There may be times when you feel like you are out on your own with no help. However, you can always seek help from others online who have done what you are trying to do. Online business message boards and chatrooms can place you in touch with others who are more than willing to share their knowledge.

Above all, don’t be afraid to take chances! Most successful people take chances. Always keep your eyes open and your ears attuned to business ideas. You may find that the best suggestions for a great product are right in your own backyard.

The primary point here is not to give up but focus, do the mechanics and test, test, and test again. Don’t be afraid to make changes if you have to.
