If you have had a domain name for long, then you have probably received mailings trying to get you to transfer your domain name. I want to warn you to be careful before renewing or transferring your domain name.

There are some companies who send out these mails to your mailing address, not just your email. In the mailings, they will try to make it seem like you just need to renew your domain name. In reality, you probably do not need to renew your domain name; they are just trying to fool you into switching to them as your domain registrar. Generally, I have noticed they charge about two or three times the going rate per year for domain names.

It’s a trick! Don’t get fooled into switching to an expensive registrar.

Of course, you do need to renew your domain name before it expires. But you can do that through your registrar, and generally you will do it online not through snail mail.

There are some people who buy and sell domain names to make money online. I generally do not do this, but sometimes I’ll buy a domain name if I think of a good one.

You can invest in domain names because they often go up in value as good names become rare. Imagine how much one word domain names are now worth even though they were originally purchased for less than 10 dollars.

By now, most of the best .com domain names have been taken. However, if you get domain names according to current events, you can still buy cheap domain names that might become worth much more. For example, if a new music artist comes out, you can buy domain names related to them.

To make money buying domain names, you have to be creative and you have to be good at predicting what will become more desirable and rare.

Domain names are a large part of online business. Every website needs a domain name. Choosing the right domain name can have a huge impact on your traffic and search engine rankings. Today I have the pleasure of telling you about BuyDomainNames.com.

BuyDomainNames.com not only sells domain names, but they also provide information about what domain names are and how to use them. They have been in the business since 1999. They have a U.S. toll-free phone number and an international phone number displayed prominently on their website, which is a sign of a respectable company.

What makes them unique from other domain name retailers is that they sell premium domain names. They have a portfolio of 800,000 exclusive domain names. This means you do not have to settle for coming up with a new domain name that nobody ever has registered before, but instead you can buy one of their premium domain names. Many of these domain names are short and easy-to-remember. Many of them probably already have traffic going to them.

The domain names vary greatly in price depending upon their individual value. The best domain names are obviously priced the highest. For example, you can find some domain names for $100, and you can find some for millions of dollars. Remember not to pay more than you can afford for a good domain name.

Today I want to give you the following tip: Buy your own domain name. There are some websites out there that will let you have a site as a subdomain or folder on their domain for free, such as blogspot. However, a domain name costs less than $10 per year. It’s completely unprofessional not to get your own domain name. Additionally, your customers and visitors will have a hard time remembering the domain if you don’t use your own. You can buy a domain name from places like godaddy and namecheap, among many others. Do it, if you haven’t already.

Before You Start

Before you choose a domain name you must have a business model and know your target audience. Also, think about what makes you special on the market?

Keyword Rich Domain Names

Should you choose a keyword rich domain? Many people think that its important to choose a keyword rich domain. A keyword rich domain looks like make-money-business-opportunity-online.com. Keywords in domain name are important but you must find one without any hyphens and at the same time make is short.

Domain Names With Hyphens

The idea behind selecting a domain name with hyphens is to separate the words in the domain name as most search engines cant read the words if they are written together. But, today search engines have become so advanced that it is not giving much importance to the domain name.

If you want your visitors to come back then choose a domain name which is easy to remember and which sticks to their heads. It doesn’t matter if the domain name have no keywords the point is to choose a brand name.

A domain name without any hyphens looks more professional and easier to remember. Hence a domain name with hyphen is not at all recommended.

Short Versus Long Domain Names

People tends to forget domain names which are long. So stick with a short domain name.

Top Level Domain Name Selection

If you are targeting your local market then choosing a domain name with your country code is better. For e.g if you have a shopping site which is targeting U.K then you must choose a .co.uk domain name. Also in that case you must choose a web host from your country itself which boosts your search engine rankings.

Now if you select a regional domain then make sure you register its .com extension if it is available and point that domain to your regional domain name. This is important as people forget the true extension your domain they assume that your domain is a .com.

Also, its important to add your address to your website so that you get a ranking boost when people add country name to their searches.

Buying Multiple Domain Names

Register additional domain names that matches your business and then point that to your website. You can try godaddi.com, godady.com, goddaddy.com all points to GoDaddy.com

Where to register a Domain Name?

I register my domains at Yahoo! Domains as it is one of the best domain name registrar. Yahoo! charges only $1.99 for the first year after that its $9.95/yr. and yes of course you can change your registrar after one year if you are not satisfied with their service. But I bet you wont have to do that.

Register your domain name at Yahoo! Only $1.99/yr.

Searching for a domain name? So where do you think you are going to search domain names available for use? You might have definitely come across websites while checking for available domain name that offer services where you can search for domain names under the titles like ‘Check for domain name availability’ or ‘domain name check’ or ‘domain lookup’. Think twice before using such services, because not all of them are perfect and their results are not quite reliable. So always search for the availability of domain names in a well known search engine.

The domain names that you once searched for and had been shown available but now when you finally decide to register a domain name you see that it has already been taken and now this leaves you in a state of panic because you have already designed your website with that name and now you need to change this banner you designed emptying your pockets and now imagine repeating the whole process all over again. The domain names that you search for could be immediately registered and even a delay of couple of days could prove disastrous for your website and could lead to you compromising for your website title which would be the identity for your website for a given period of time.

While registering for domain names care should be taken that the website name should be registered first and then the website name should be embedded in the website. This could save a lot of time and efforts. After registering a domain name you could select one of the web hosting companies of your choice and then host your website. Now at least you can rest assured that your website has a fixed name and you could use that name in your website titles and banners without worrying about it being taken away. This is just a precautionary measure, not that each and every one who doesn’t purchase domain name first is affected by it.

The domain name if taken could be acquired once again when its validity expires. A domain name is registered by a webmaster for a fixed period of time and if he would like to own it again he needs to renew his domain registration once again. The webmaster is notified through email close to the date of expiry of his domain name so that he could renew his domain name well before it gets expired and if he fails to do so, his domain name expires and is made available for other webmasters to acquire

If you are reluctant towards losing the domain name of your choice and would not like to compromise over your website name, you could find out who currently owns the website name you liked your website should have and then find out whether the owner of the domain name would like to sell it you. Of course you will have to shell out a few more dollars as per the domain owner’s demand.

The language a computer uses is numeric in nature. If the language of a computer is displayed in front of the internet users, many of the frequent users may not be able to distinguish one web site from the other. Every website has a numeric address on the World Wide Web. As it is difficult for people to remember the numeric names or URLs of the web sites and web pages, domain names are used. Domain names are the names which are used commonly for a website in place of its actual numeric web address. Domain names are very important for the success of websites. A common domain name, which is easily memorable, increases the chances of getting more web traffic which in turn increases the chances of getting more business.

Making profit through domain names is possible only if you happen to find a domain name which is easy to remember and which is related to the content and nature of your website. For example if your website is related to providing gardening services and the domain name used suggests that is has some thing to do with groceries, your web site will not work well for you. Find a domain name which is both related to the nature of your web based work and which is easy to remember. Choosing a search engine favorite key word as a domain name is also a very good idea. All these techniques will help you in making money through choosing good and just the right kind of domain names.

The domain name is one of the most important decisions you will make when trying to win over the search engine dilemma. Try using at least one of your best keywords within your domain name. The search engine and the directories give higher preference when your domain name is relevant to your site content or theme. The domain name is one of the most important decisions you will make when trying to win over the search engine dilemma. Try using at least one of your best keywords within your domain name.

The search engine and the directories give higher preference when your domain name is relevant to your site content or theme. Checking if a domain name is freely available is very straightforward as most domain registration services provide a WHOIS service, as the name suggest, this checks the ownership details of a domain, note however that such services normally run 48 hours behind actual registrations.

THE MOST POPULAR
Domain name extension is dot com. Therefore, despite what others may say, it is imperative that your domain name ends with the dot com extension. This extension is the most memorable and most likely to be found. If your search for a chosen domain name shows that the dot com extension is taken, do not accept the dot net extension.

The popularity of domain names also led to uses which were regarded as abusive by established companies with trademark rights; this was known as cybersquatting, in which somebody took a name that resembled a trademark in order to profit from traffic to that address.

To combat this, various laws and policies were enacted to allow abusive registrations to be forcibly transferred, but these were sometimes themselves abused by overzealous companies committing reverse domain hijacking against domain users who had legitimate grounds to hold their names, such as their being generic words as well as trademarks in a particular context, or their use in the context of fan or protest sites with free speech rights of their own.

Domain names are definitely very important for website marketing and the promotion of your business. There are countless unknown junk websites, hosted by free web hosting services or Internet Service Providers, without their own domain names, which are just there but not doing any great business. And there are many well-known websites, commercially successful, whose very domain names rake in tons of money. It is likely that a few of the former variety are doing some profitable marketing, but the chances of successful marketing by those with their own domain names get multiplied. For some reason, over the years, people have developed a prejudice against websites that have not got their own domain names. Most of these cannot win any customers. With a professional look, which accompanies companies with own domain names, business naturally prospers.

To appreciate better how important domain names are for promoting business on the web, let us understand what domain names actually do rather than what they actually are. Every computer connected to the Internet is allotted a unique number, rather a unique string of numbers, called the Internet Protocol (IP) address, for its website identification. This number is not based on the geographical location of the computer, for one thing. For another, it is dependent on the web hosting companies that provide their service to the computer concerned. That is the number is changeable, not fixed forever. Unlike the IP addresses, domain names are easy on the mind and, once registered, remain unchanged. Domain names of prosperous companies have become Internet household names. If your website is successful, the popularity of your domain name grows, which in turn drives your business better.

Structure of a domain name

A domain name has at least two parts in its structure. Take hp.com as an example. The suffix (.com ) is known as the top level domain and the prefix (hp) the subordinate level domain. Top level domains indicate the areas of interest or activity of the websites registered under them. For instance, .edu is for websites related to education and .gov to government agencies and so on. So when you think of a domain name for your business, you will typically want it to be under a .com because it is the easiest to remember. However, with the incredible number of domain names out there, .biz, .tv, .us among others, have been introduced as new top level domains. What is most important is your choice of the subordinate level domain for your domain name.

Here comes the role the keywords play in your choice. If you know that search engines locate your website more easily when your domain name is keyword-related than otherwise, you will chose a domain name that earns your website a high page rank. Your business will thus succeed better if your domain name is more search engine friendly.

Make your domain name short, simple and sweet for making at once memorable and easily visible to search engines. Do not use spaces and symbols. They are not allowed. Only letters, numbers and dashes are permitted in domain names. Also, always remember to renew your domain name registration before the it expires.

Gone are the days when Network Solutions would charge you astronomical fees to register domains. Actually, their fees are still heavy, but they have competition now. There are hundreds of Domain Registrars on the Internet today most which charge considerably lesser than Network Solutions to register domains. But with so many registrars, how exactly do you go about selecting the one for you? When you register domains, here’s what you need to pay attention to.

First and foremost, you check if provider is an accredited ICANN domain registrar. This is important because ICANN only certifies businesses with the right technology and processes. Besides that, if you register domains with an ICANN accredited registrar, and they do foul up; you always have the choice of complaining about it to ICANN. So always look for an “ICANN accredited” seal on the registrar’s site before you go ahead and register domains with them.

Secondly, before you register domains, you should know what kind of domains you may need in future. Almost everyone will register domains with Top Level Domains (TLDs) like .com, .org and .net. But not all registrars will register domains with international extensions such as .in, .fr, .eu, .cc, or even specialized extensions such as the more recent .mobi. Of course, when a new TLD or ccTLD is approved by ICANN, it takes time for registrars to upgrade the applications and pay fees to handle the new extensions; so users (such as yourself) may experience a delay before being able to seamlessly register domains in new extensions. But, in any case, your registrar should be proactive in doing it. Otherwise, you will end up depending on several registrars to register domains in these other fancy TLDs. This means more control panels to look after, more usernames and passwords, and often, more headaches every time you register domains. However, there are some people who prefer to do this, but for different reasons entirely: They will register domains with the lowest cost registrar for a particular TLD at that time.

Another point worth consideration is how powerful and feature-rich the control panel of your domain registrar is. Some registrars only let you register domains with basic services: they won’t let you set your own child name-servers, or they will make the domain transfer process overly complex and time consuming (so that you will be stuck with the registrar that you register domains with). You might also want a separate account manager of a domain or a group of domains, while you look after billing and renewals. Other features like alternative name suggestions, whois data privacy, and, added services like email and hosting differ from provider to provider and may not be included at all when you register domains with them. So before you go ahead and register domains with any old registrar, you need to consider what features you want, and how much you are ready to pay for them.

Again, if you are looking to register domains in bulk, you should look for a registrar that allows you to do so at a considerable discount. Most registrars offer bulk discounts to good customers. If you do want to register domains in bulk, or want to become a reseller, you should check if your registrar provides customizable web pages or APIs (interfaces) that allow you to sell domains with your own prices and branding. Of course, there are additional costs involved for this. These are levied on a subscription basis. Also, as the API and web pages will reside on your provider’s servers, uptimes and service quality become an important point to check. If you plan to do a lot of business after you register domains, you should stick with providers with a good reputation. With competition just a click away, lost business never comes back.

You should pay attention to the price last. Most competitive providers allow you to register domains in .com, .org and .net, at a price near 9 USD (inclusive of the 0.25 USD ICANN surcharge). However, the cost per domain varies a great deal if you are looking to register domains in other extensions and ccTLDs (Country Code Top Level Domains). If you are just a casual buyer, or are just interested in registering domains with .com, .org and .net extensions; the price shouldn’t bother you much. But if you are registering domains in bulk, cost savings of even one dollar per domain becomes huge when you talk numbers. Before you decide to register domains, and especially if you are looking to invest in domain names, you should check out a few registrars, as prices change almost every day. Good hunting.

Domain names would be one of the first things you should do when you have an internet marketing business. A domain name is like a brand name, address or an identity to your website. It has to be unique, concise and memorable.

Good domain name is preferably memorable. One that is memorable would be those that you can remember even if you saw it once, many years ago. It is also understood that if your domain name is memorable, it would be more likely that users would type in the correct URL in their browser.

It also has to be unique, because, you would not want your users to confuse your domain name with that of another, especially if it were your competitors. So, be clear about how it would look and sound like. One point to note is that, there are many other domain names that end with the extensions, such as .net, .biz, .tk and so on, but the .com domain name is one that is prevalent in the internet. If, for any reason, that your domain name is one that ends with other extensions like .biz, make sure that you make it memorable by capitalizing the extension. For example, if you have an address like www.domainnames.net would want to make it more obvious by displaying your address as www.domainnames.NET. This way, users would be more likely to remember that it ended with .net instead of .com. Being memorable helps to bring more visitors.

When your business is progressing more aggressively, you may want to consider buying a domain name that is wrong as well. For example, your URL could be www.domainnames.com, however, some users may remember it as www.domainname.com, without the‘s’ at the end. You can then direct the users who typed the wrong URL to your website.

Your domain name should reflect what type of website that you have. No point having a website about cars but your domain name says something like www.goodseats.com. The further away a domain name is from whom you are or what you do, the more likely it is you won’t have great success in marketing.

You can register for a domain name at www.GoDaddy.com. They have a good range of domain name extensions and you can use their smart search if you have difficulties in deciding what domain name is the most unique, concise and memorable.
