Many affiliate marketers list Clickbank as one of the best affiliate systems out there, especially for someone just starting out. I personally think Clickbank is highly overrated.

My main reasons for not liking it, and more importantly for not recommending it, is that is doesn’t track click-throughs and conversions. The only thing your Clickbank stats will tell you is how many items you’ve sold and how much money you’ve made. This is not very helpful.

Marketing well is based on analyzing your stats. If one product is converting better than another, you will be able to spend more marketing it. Additionally, if an item is not converting then you may want to stop marketing it or change your marketing methods.

Besides, without detailed stats, you cannot be sure your affiliate link is working until you make a sale.

Beyond the stats, Clickbank is full of junk products. They sell a lot of “get-rich-quick” ebooks and similar products that promise the world and deliver almost nothing. I want to avoid being associated with a company that deals with that.

What do you think?

Being an affiliate is really a mindset thing. Would you rather run a company that is responsible for providing the product or service, starting relationships with prospects, following up relentlessly to close the sale, shipping the product, handling returns, dealing with all the customer service issues including people who are only want to give you a hard time… Hey, a lot of people love doing those things and that’s great. We need those kind of people and I’m deeply thankful for them myself.

Or would you rather simply focus on bringing prospects to the table and letting the company do all the “dirty” work for you? This is the choice of an affiliate.

I’ve seen so many people fail in this business simply because they joined the WRONG program(s). They put their heart and soul into promoting it, but it never produced big profits for them. These people leave the Internet thinking that affiliate marketing is a scam, but the truth is often that they just joined the wrong programs. If they would have put the same energy into another affiliate program (one that actually converts prospects into customer and pays the lion’s share of the profits), they would have succeeded.

Through out the years working on the internet, it has always intrigued me on what is the best method of making money on line. I think for starters affiliate marketing is the best. As you get the hang of it you then develop your own products to promote. The question that always crops up is “how do you choose the best affiliate programme?’

The answer to that is simple:
1. Take time to browse and compare the different affiliate programmes before joining.
2. Join a programme that is willing to pay you more than they earn when you make a sale
3. Choose a programme that pays you a residual income, i.e. if you manage to have someone signing up then you get paid month after month as long as the person remains with the programme
4. Choose programmes such as those offering hosting services, memberships, business opportunities
5. Join those programmes that offer wide range of support including well tested marketing material and coaching/training for your success.

6. The trick in choosing a programme is patience.
Key to remember is that you put the same effort in promoting a programme that will pay you a once off payment and one that will pay you continuously. It is again always better to join about 5 of the affiliate programmes as you diversify your income streams. It is not advisable to stick only to one affiliate programme. At the same time you do not need to join hundreds of them.

I got an advice early on when I started dabbling into the internet business and that advice was this is business and treat it as such, this not a get rich quick programme a lot of work is needed for you to succeed, do not get carried away by many promises of $ in 30 days. Be systematic, consistent and persevere.

Why would you want to earn extra residual income online? Residual income allows you to leverage your time. The idea is that you put in an initial time and effort which will earn you extra residual income. You get paid multiple times for something which you do once.

1. One way to earn extra residual income is to join affiliate programs that pay you recurring commissions. For example, there are many membership sites online with residual income compensation structures. Website hosting companies usually have a referral program that pays you regularly. When you refer someone to this type of affiliate program, you will earn income as long as they stay active in that program. The key is that you have to advertise your affiliate program to a targeted audience.

2. Multiple tier affiliate programs can also help you create more residual income. To succeed with multiple tier affiliate programs, you have to recruit affiliates who are actively recruiting. These active affiliates will build your downline and enable you to earn extra income by leveraging the efforts of others. To find active affiliates, you can use an online system that acts like a funnel and initially sorts prospects for you.

3. Online investing is another way to earn more residual income. Of course, it is not a guaranteed way to make more money but it take advantage of the power of time. First you will have to join an online brokerage. These brokerages let you manage your own investments online and are cheaper than traditional brokerage firms. Before you start investing online, make sure you have some system in place to determine how you will buy and sell your investments. If you do not have a system, then emotion will likely take over. It will probably cause you to actually decrease your income instead of earning more.

4. Start your own membership site. Take a look at your hobbies and interests. Take an inventory of what you are passionate and knowledgeable about. If you think you do not have any knowledge or services to share, remember that everyone has knowledge that others would like. The good thing about a membership site is that if it provides value, people will continue to subscribe and earn you residual income. If you continue to improve your site all the time, your residual income will grow.

5. If you think that starting a membership site is too much work, then consider joining a proven residual income generating system. A big advantage with an income system is that it can be duplicated. Duplication can increase your residual income because your referrals will have the same income system you have. They will be able to figure out what to do to start earning income because they have a system like you do.

My husband and I had offline businesses for over 30 years when we decided that Internet Marketing was a business we wanted to get in to. We barely knew how to send an email but we were willing to learn.

You are bombarded daily with emails trying to sell you ebooks on how to make money on the web. Many of the emails tell you to find small niches to get your business going.

If you try to jump into the big markets or niches you will have a hard time making any money unless you really know what you are doing. A new person trying to compete in a broad market does not have much chance of success. With money and time you may succeed but it may just be better to find a few smaller niches to try at first.

On About.com, Susan Ward defines Internet Marketing as “the strategies that are used to market a product or service online, marketing strategies that include search engine optimization and search engine submission, copywriting that encourages site visitors to take action, web site design strategies, online promotions, reciprocal linking, and email marketing”. A new person coming online to start a business has little knowledge of what all of that statement actually means.

So how does a new person have any chance at success? Think smaller and think niche. If you can find a niche in something that you like, such as horse training or maybe even decorating, you will enjoy working on it a lot more.

You should get as much free information that you can find on the internet to get you started. Do a Google search for some of your ideas to see how many other people may already be in a particular market. You may surprise yourself and find a market you like that has less competition but at the same time one that has many searches.

You will have to invest some money and a lot of time to become successful with anything you decide to do with Internet Marketing. You need to be persistent and not give up. You may not make money right away but if you keep learning and applying what you learn you can become a success.

Success in any business, whether online or off, comes down to having the right product that people need and want. So remember, if you can find the right niche or niches you will be able to have an Internet Marketing business that will make you money.

One popular way you can make money with your website or blog is by promoting affiliate programs. Many people however have found that they do not make money with affiliate marketing - so what are the secrets? How can one ensure that they do make money from affiliate products?

The first step in making money with affiliate products is to have some way of capturing leads. Few people make sales the first time someone comes to their website or blog so you need to create some way of staying in touch with those who are interested. If you have a website this can be done using a lead capture page, if you have a blog you may wish to offer a newsletter on your blog or some free product that people need to give you their email address for.

This brings us to the second point: people won’t generally just give you their email addresses on a lead capture page or a blog. You need to offer them something free! Either create, have created or find a product with giveaway rights related to your affiliate products that you can give to your customers in order to get their email address. Once you have given them something of value and you have their email addresses, you will find your affiliate marketing that much easier.

If you create a freebie or have it created for you then turn it viral. This means that you allow other people to give it away as well and so you multiply your marketing. Embed the freebie with your affiliate links and then when people give out your product and follow the links they will be your affiliate links and you will gain the commission. This means that you now have a whole free sales force advertising your affiliate products for you.

Another important aspect of affiliate marketing is targeted advertising. Use forums, article marketing and email groups to advertise your affiliate products to people who are genuinely interested in the subject. Find forums on your topic, write (or have written) articles where you can advertise your affiliate links and join email groups where you can post helpful advice related to your affiliate products.

The secrets to affiliate marketing therefore lie in having a way to follow up on people who are interested in your affiliate products. An easy way to do this is by giving away a valuable freebie. Even better is if you can make this a viral freebie with your affiliate links in it so that you can multiply your affiliate marketing efforts. Use targeted advertising to get leads to come to your page with forum marketing, article marketing and email groups related to your affiliate products.

The tremendous growth of internet has thrown open several high income business opportunities. Many of these opportunities have little or no risk. And all this can be done from the comfort of your home. If you are willing to put in the time and effort, opportunities are plenty to make a high income.

Before looking out for high income business opportunities, you need to identify your niche. This will give you an edge and it will also reduce the risk. When you have personal interest in the business, you will be more inclined to work.

Today, one of the most popular high income business opportunities is affiliate marketing. The popularity of affiliate marketing is mainly attributed to its low risk. Many people have a wrong notion that low risk means less income. But this is not true in the case of affiliate marketing. If you are dedicated and hardworking, the earnings are huge in internet marketing.

A computer and internet connection is all that you need for affiliate marketing. You can join most of the affiliate programs for free. You also do not need to invest on products or services. You only need to make people click on your affiliate link. The purchasing and delivery of the products is also handled by the merchant’s web site. In affiliate marketing, there is also no need for employees. There are also no major legal formalities.

But before starting affiliate marketing, you need to do some basic research. Firstly, you should make a detail report about the product or service to intend to sell. People should have interest in the product you select. This is essential to make a high income.

The background of the company whose product you are intending to sell should also be checked. You need your customers to return to make an income constantly. Therefore always deal with a company which has established itself in the market.

If you are not keen affiliate marketing, you can check out the numerous online job banks. They have several different high income business opportunities.

You can earn a high income by providing online tuitions. But for this you should have a thorough knowledge about the subject you wish to handle. You can teach English to students in other countries. There is a high demand for English teachers. Another popular subject is information technology.

If you are creative, there are plenty of opportunities in web designing. There is also high demand for web content writers. You can also offer data entry and transcription services from the comfort of your home.

There are plenty of opportunities on the internet. Depending upon your skill, you can select a field. And if you are innovative, you can create your own high income business opportunities.

What is Affliliate Marketing? Why is the internet a buzz about Affliliate Marketing? And why to dot com millionaires always seemed to be involved in some sort of Affliliate Marketing?

If you plan to build an internet business or internet empire without a doubt affliliate marketing is something you need to become involved with.

So let’s answer the first question, What is Affiliate Marketing? Affliliate Marketing is selling on behalf of someone else in return for a percentage of the sale. You stock no product, don’t need to package or handle, nor do you have the normal business overheads. What you do need with Affliliate Marketing is web presence. The internet is now so huge - 8 Billion pages and growing - that the chance of someone stumbling on your site is low to nil without doing some tricks of the trade. (see my article or website on generate traffic and create hits) for further on that topic.

The simple fact of the matter is you will not get sales if you don’t get traffic. Think of it this way - an affliliate product is sold by advertising, therefore what will generate more sales? One ad or thousands of ads? That’s pretty easy, the more ads, the more traffic, the greater the number of sales. Understand that the conversion rate on the internet is low. A conversion rate is the number of views before a potential sale. Normally this hovers around 1%. It tends not to matter what you are selling this rate tends to remain the same, your offer could be the very best on the net but still the conversion rate tends to be 1% - or one in hundred visitors will buy and make you money. Anyone with a conversion rate of 3% would be considered to be doing amazingly well and most people can not achieve this kind of result. Compare this with the conversion rate of people visiting the local shopping center, apart those teenagers who just love to ‘hang’, most people going to the shops buy at least something.

Obviously the internet is a different kind of market. People are in the comfort of their own homes. The psychology of the sale is very different. Whereas people going to the shops are buying neccessities like the weekly groceries, online people are tending to buy luxuries. The spur of the moment sale is less demanding as well, because people can bookmark and know they can come back later - they can delay the purchase decision with no fear of losing their chance to purchase. Some internet marketers have tried to overcome this by saying only 50 left, only 33 left, etc, having a count down. But as they tend to be selling information packages and not hard products people still to not have the need to impulse buy. Whereas at the shop they are aware the stock is limited and may be sold out next week so the buy now mentality rules, hence why we continue to have increasing credit card debt.

However just because the impulse buy is not the overriding feature on the internet does not mean sales to not occur. They do, and do so on a regular basis. In fact just about anything and everything is sold via the net. Companies already on tight advertising budgets realise you can not dominate the net like you can television or radio advertising. You might have sole sponsership rights to a particular sports team or sports star i.e. Nike with Tiger Woods, but you can’t dominate eight billion individual pages. So the smart companies decide that the cheapest way to increase there internet present is to appeal to the millions of internet webmasters, etc. How? By giving them a slice of the action, from about 5-10% for sales of traditonal items e.g. flowers, hotel stays, etc up to 75% for informational products or services. Whilst one affliliate ad on one site may not generate a huge income, 1000 ads on 1000 sites can generate a small fortune. Although this sort of internet presence takes time to set up, once accomplished they keep on selling day after day with no further input from you neccessary.

So if you have no affliliate partnerships get moving and get some now. If you have sites, maximise their income potential by adding affliliate banners and links. The most popular providers of affliliate links are clixGalore, clickbank and Commission Junction.

About The Author: Alastair Harris’s favourite provider is clixGalore due to their easy to use interface and there provision of traditional product lines and worldwide coverage in most currencies if clixGalore and Alastair strongly suggests you join them. Alastair also likes clickbank and their advantage is that they affliliate programs tend to have a higher payout percentage. Commission Junction is the least favourite because many of its programs are very selective about who they have as affliliate partners. For original article and links to join clixGalore and clickbank to go http://affliliate-marketing.blogspot.com & http://traffic-and-hits.blogspot.com .

While I love Craigslist and Backpage.com, you’ll notice that people tend to trash them out by abusing their free advertising. Don’t be one of those people. The people who own these sites didn’t design them with this in mind. They are a free public service and it’s not okay to take advantage of them. One ad here and there is fine. With Backpage.com, you have to do a sponsored ad to be seen and their fees are quite reasonable. But, do not make them your only form of advertising. When you overuse “free advertising” it makes you look inexperienced and gives off the impression that you aren’t making any money.

My advice is to keep the free stuff to a minimum. With free forms of advertising, you sometimes get what you paid for. Instead, invest in featured ads that will keep you at the top of the page or at least in a top 10 list of revolving ads. Something where your ad will be seen! This is where your own research and creativity comes into play. You are only limited by your own ability to think outside the box. Classified ads can be your friend if you utilize the ones that get you exposure. That entails spending a little money.

Print ads are also great. Know that you get a much better deal by going with a statewide newspaper than you do with one local paper. Think about it. Do you want the entire state to see your ad, or just the people in your city? It’s about the same price either way, you just have to be smart about it. Keep in mind that the people that work for the newspaper are on commission. Make sure you aren’t paying for bold print or borders that you may or may not want. Their prices are NOT etched in stone, so tell them what you’re willing to spend and most of the time they will work with you. Also ask if you can get a better price by paying for a month of weekly ads upfront? Most newspapers offer something like this.

One of the saddest things I’ve witnessed in personally consulting with literally hundreds of people is someone attempting to start an online business with a virtually useless product. These are usually people trying to sell outdated products that are generally available for free from hundreds (if not thousands) of other websites.

I see the above far too often. Here are two ways that I’ve seen this happen:

1) Someone, often a newbie, buys a set of reprint or resale rights from a long copy sales page. This page does such a great job of selling the package that the prospect can see setting up dozens of sites and “making millions.”

The newbie buys the package, picks out a few products that look promising, and begins setting up websites for each. Shortly afterwards is where I often come into the picture, as these webmasters often approach me for help in getting more sales. They are perplexed as to why they haven’t made even a single sale.

I often take a quick look and instantly identify the problem. The product is often “older than dirt” and available all over the Internet for free. At other times, the product is not outdated but is available on dozens of other sites at a much lower price. In the latter case, the webmaster is trying to sell the product at the price that was listed on the sales page where the bundle of products was described. This would work if it weren’t for the fact that MOST of the other people who bought rights to the product were selling it much cheaper, or even using it as a freebie to get new subscribers.

2) A relative newbie buys a package containing dozens of “web businesses-in-a-box.” These are complete packages containing a ready-to-go website and a product (usually software or an ebook). Often these ready-to-go packages are comprised of outdated products that countless other people are GIVING away.

How do you avoid the two situations described above? There’s a Latin expression - “caveat emptor.” It means, “Let the buyer beware.” It means that it’s the buyer’s responsibility to know what he’s buying.

Does this mean that you shouldn’t buy these packages of reprint and resale rights? No, it just means that you need to know what you are buying. You also need to know how to properly market it. I’ve made a small fortune from buying, repackaging, and then reselling reprint rights, resale rights and private label rights.

My secret is that when I buy one of these packages, I go through and look for items that I can combine in different ways. I look for gems within these packages that weren’t even emphasized on the sales page, but that I know many of my customers would get a lot of use out of. I look for items that I can add to other packages I’m already selling… to breathe new life into an old sales page or add more value to my offerings.

As an example, I once purchased a resale rights package that included 38 PDF cookbooks. I added these cookbooks to the sales page for my soul food cookbook that I was already selling (as a time-limited bonus). This increased my sales for that cookbook substantially while adding practically nothing to the cost of delivering the basic product. If you’d like to see that example in action, check out my sales page at: http://Chitterlings.com/cookbook.html

Another one of my secrets is that I buy private label rights and source code, modify these, and come up with new products at a very low cost. I’ve done this with over a dozen ebooks and with several software titles that I currently market. This gives you your own unique product at a very low cost.

The final thing that you MUST do is not overpay for these reprint and resale rights. You WILL find lots of marketable gems in these packages. You can market these as parts of new packages or as stand-alone products. However, you do want to minimize your initial investment.

You can actually find packages containing literally thousands of dollars in reprint and resale rights for under $100. You can even find these bargains for under $50. An example is the Kick Start Mega Sale, conducted to raise funds for building a homeless shelter. Here you can get a package worth over $4000 for pennies on the dollar. This package is available for a very limited time at: http://kickstartmegasale.com/ks/?ksa=2

You CAN set up an online info-marketing business and do extremely well. The whole key is to get started with the right product… one with some real value. The whole key there is to do your due diligence and to be aware of the traps. Now, you need never fall victim to the horror stories that we opened this article with. Feel free to pass this article on and to help spread the word.

How to make money on the Internet? That is the question!

Everyone using the Internet for business, whether as a home-based online business or as an online base for their normal brick-and-mortar business, are looking for the secret to make money with their web sites.

There are many ways to do this:

- Selling one’s own products online.
- Using the web site to generate business off-line.
- Selling other people products as a retailer.
- Selling information (not spying or treason! LOL).
- Selling membership with benefits.
- Selling wholesale.
- Earning commissions by referring buyers to other web sites (affiliate programme marketing)
to name some.

Affiliate marketing is an ideal, affordable, way to expand your markets. Affiliate marketing can be related to appointing commission-only sales representatives. On the Internet your “employers” or your “representatives” can be based all over the world, depending on how the programmes is set up.

Imagine having over 70,000 representives worldwide selling your products or services, like Corey Rudl has, and they do not cost you money unless they sell!

Imagine not only selling your own products, but also similar products all over the world without having to worry about supplies, deliveries or returns.

There are two sides to affiliate marketing:

As a merchant or advertiser, and
As an affiliate, a reseller, a publisher (a number of different names are used by the various programmes

Whether you are a merchant and have a web site where you are trying to sell your product or service, or whether you have a web site and would like to earn an income by offering other merchants’ products to your visitors, affiliate marketing offers you opportunities to increase your income and profits.

And the two sides of affiliate marketing are not mutually exclusive. You can also be a merchant offering your own products, as well as use affiliate marketing to offer supplementary or complimentary products and services.

As a merchant:

As a merchant offering your own products or services affiliate marketing is an ideal, performance-based, means of expanding your sales force on the Internet.

By offering an affiliate programme you can appoint “salespeople” all over the world to market your products or services from their web sites on a commission-only basis. This means that you only pay for performance.

No worries about:

- employment contacts and practices
- personnel issues
- salaries to non-performers, etc.

Setting up your own affiliate programme can be a bit tricky, especially if you try to set it up yourself. Your need to:

- find affiliates
- sign up the affiliates
- vet the affiliate web sites to see if they comply with your requirements
- provide them with sales material
- track affiliate sales,
- track commissions
- pay out commissions
- motivate and communicate with affiliates

Unless you have the programming and administration capabilities I would suggest that you look at another option - using a third party affiliate programme manager. They take all the “dirty” work off your hands.

Using Third Party affiliate Programme Managers

A number of programme managers offer these services to a greater or lesser extent. One of their greatest advantages is that they have a “ready-made” sales force for you - affiliates sitting and waiting for affiliate programmes they can market.

As an affiliate:

In my ebook “How To Turn Your School Web Site Into A Fundraising Machine” I discuss a number of ways to make money with one’s web site.

Using affiliate marketing programmes, where you generate commissions from sales at other web sites, is one of the cheapest - and often easiest - ways to generate multiple income streams from your web site.

- No products to worry about - there are thousands of programmes available.
- No delivery issues - the product owners do that.
- No customer service responsibilities - the product owners does that.
- No web design - merely links to other web sites.
- No costs - most affiliate programmes are free to join.
- International markets - there are affiliate programmes available all over the world
- Targeted - there programmes for just about every market

Finding affiliate programmes are also easy. While many web sites offer their own affiliate programmes there are a number of affiliate programme managers where you can find hundreds and even thousands of programmes in one one spot.

Affiliate programme managers offer you thousands of opportunities to generate multiple income streams from your web site.

And they are FREE to join as affiliates.

Alternatively, you can look at private affiliate programmes from some of the top Internet marketers or some examples of other products like jewelry, travel, pet products, etc

All you need to do is to search for the programmes that suit your target market.

The right affiliate programmes serve a number of purposes on your web site:

Affiliate programmes offer supplementary or complimentary products to your own products without having to supply it.

If people are going to leave your site, as they must sooner or later, you might as well direct them to web sites where you can earn some money.
Affiliate programmes can increase the content of your web site, thereby attracting more visitors.

While there are many ways to generate an income with one’s web site, and most affiliate programmes require that a sale be made before you can earn any commissions. The more targeted your affiliate programmes to your target market, the better the chances of you making money with them.

One of the simplest ways to earn money with affiliate programmes is by giving away freebies.

Affiliate Marketing and Internet Business Advice08 Aug 2006 10:47 am

I am a big believer in having several sources of income. (Not putting all your eggs in one basket.) Do not EVER depend on any one business to come through for you every month. Be smart about it. Do you know of an investor that only invests in one company or one thing? While one business you are involved in might be going through the roof, I think it is always wise to have more than one thing going on.

Some businesses will come and go due to trends. Sometimes they do so well, that the internet is saturated with too many people doing the same thing. They are canceling out each other’s advertising and no one wins but the company. Maybe Plan A, for whatever reason, might be slow because of upcoming holidays. Whereas, your Plan B might be the type of business to make money for you during that time. Think about it. It’s wise to keep informed as to what’s new, but never lose focus on other businesses that are a more permanent or steady source of income.

Very few people can just “retire” from participating in only one business. If they can, more power to them. For me, I prefer to spread out my advertising efforts and advertising dollars. I’ve learned over the years to not have your income depend on only one thing. I think most people who do internet marketing for a living will tell you this. While they may promote one thing more than others, you can bet they have other things going on, too. When you find something that works for you, let other people know about it! (This doesn’t mean email everyone you know.)

Internet marketers are always on the lookout for other businesses they can be a part of. Advertising in areas where they will find it is the smartest thing you can do to promote your business. I also recommend making some money in a business before recommending it to other people. If you don’t, you will ruin your credibility. Waiting until you have a good experience/income is just the right thing to do for other people’s sake. I personally choose products that people will continue to want, need, or reorder. I have found that my income is more “stable” this way.

In response to being asked about other businesses or programs I participate in, I’ve included information about some of them in this eBook and on my website. Just remember, it is smarter to have a few hundred dollars coming in each month from 10 sources, than to have one source you depend on. Each of those 10 businesses will continue to grow if you continue to promote them and establish your own organization. Rarely does anyone have a garden with only one type of vegetable. Maintain your businesses as if you were growing a garden and always have a variety of “vegetables.”
