Today I want to tell you about the neat webmaster community at www.webdigity.com. The Webdigity webmaster community has many free resources for webmasters and online business owners, including discussion forums, whois services, and a web gallery of web designs.

I like Webdigity’s Webmaster Forums most of all. By my count, these informative forums have 29 categories all with various threads and topics within them. General areas of discussion include web design & layout, web development, web hosting, monetizing your site, website promotion, and Webdigity itself. Of course, it also offers a section called “Marketplace” where members can buy, sell, and trade with each other. At these forums, you can read through the tons of information already discussed, and you can post any questions of your own.

The fast and effective whois database at Webdigity allows you to search for domains names and then it retrieves the information of the domain’s registration, including contact information. Also, it delivers SEO information.

For anyone interested in web designs, the web gallery shows many different designs. You can also submit your own design, which can offer you some publicity.

Overall www.webdigity.com offers the users many great resources through their understandable and visually appealing.

Affiliate Marketing28 Jul 2007 03:10 pm

Being an affiliate is really a mindset thing. Would you rather run a company that is responsible for providing the product or service, starting relationships with prospects, following up relentlessly to close the sale, shipping the product, handling returns, dealing with all the customer service issues including people who are only want to give you a hard time… Hey, a lot of people love doing those things and that’s great. We need those kind of people and I’m deeply thankful for them myself.

Or would you rather simply focus on bringing prospects to the table and letting the company do all the “dirty” work for you? This is the choice of an affiliate.

I’ve seen so many people fail in this business simply because they joined the WRONG program(s). They put their heart and soul into promoting it, but it never produced big profits for them. These people leave the Internet thinking that affiliate marketing is a scam, but the truth is often that they just joined the wrong programs. If they would have put the same energy into another affiliate program (one that actually converts prospects into customer and pays the lion’s share of the profits), they would have succeeded.

Through out the years working on the internet, it has always intrigued me on what is the best method of making money on line. I think for starters affiliate marketing is the best. As you get the hang of it you then develop your own products to promote. The question that always crops up is “how do you choose the best affiliate programme?’

The answer to that is simple:
1. Take time to browse and compare the different affiliate programmes before joining.
2. Join a programme that is willing to pay you more than they earn when you make a sale
3. Choose a programme that pays you a residual income, i.e. if you manage to have someone signing up then you get paid month after month as long as the person remains with the programme
4. Choose programmes such as those offering hosting services, memberships, business opportunities
5. Join those programmes that offer wide range of support including well tested marketing material and coaching/training for your success.

6. The trick in choosing a programme is patience.
Key to remember is that you put the same effort in promoting a programme that will pay you a once off payment and one that will pay you continuously. It is again always better to join about 5 of the affiliate programmes as you diversify your income streams. It is not advisable to stick only to one affiliate programme. At the same time you do not need to join hundreds of them.

I got an advice early on when I started dabbling into the internet business and that advice was this is business and treat it as such, this not a get rich quick programme a lot of work is needed for you to succeed, do not get carried away by many promises of $ in 30 days. Be systematic, consistent and persevere.

Podcasting24 Jul 2007 06:34 pm

The evolution of I-Pod Broadcasting or Podcasting has evolved because of the audio files on Ipod and the MP3’s and MP4’s that have “plagued” most of the human ears in the Internet. With the fundamental nature of men who adores listening to good music, Podcasting has gained wide acceptance from people. Moreover, because of its being widely accepted, a lot of things have been required to create a more fitting and more suitable music for specific type of people.

Podcasts are a good source of income to some and a better source of money to majority. With merely podcasting, you will be able to generate a profitable income for yourself. To create your own podcast, there are only a few things that you have to remember.

• When creating your podcast, make sure that you know what your prospective market wants. The only way for you to know this is to experience the actual music that they want. Meaning, if you would like to come up with a sellable podcast, you have to listen to what majority of your target market listens to.

• Make a research about what they listen. It is not enough that you know what they want, you have to exactly determine the resources of what they want. In that aspect, you will have the initial means in knowing where the resources are.

• After knowing what they want, then you are ready to record the podcast. With recording, make sure that you use the best and high quality music recording tools and gadgets. This allows you to come up with a quality podcast, too.

Have you ever known someone that didn’t like to receive things for Free…? Neither have I. In fact most people can spend hours searching the internet for free quality content.

If you want to build targeted traffic to your site you have to think outside the box. Search Engine Rankings and Advertising campaigns are not the only ways to drive people to look at you site. By adding free downloads you will attract visitors by hundreds, if not thousands.

Downloads are extremely popular, especially when they are free. With many sites charging outrages prices for the littlest download, a freebie will be more than welcomed by your audience.

You might be wondering “what can I offer as a free download?”. There are plenty of options to choose from. The most popular item is an ebook. If you have a certain expertise, you can apply your knowledge and write articles about a certain subject. You can later compile them and offer them as a Free Ebook. If you lack of knowledge or simply don’t have the time to write an Ebook, you can download/purchase ebooks that give you resell rights so you can distribute them with no problem. (Always verify that you were given the resell rights on a written document) .

Other formats of Freebies can include MP3s, Videos and Software. (I repeat… You must own the rights to such items before giving them away).

The benefit of Ebooks over other types of Freebies is that we can recycle the information in it by publishing its content in article directories to help increase even further the number of clicks, but we won’t talk about that right now.

Needless to say, if your website is about computers, your freebie must be of a related topic. The beauty of offering free things is that people visit your site and receive more value than they had expected. This will encourage them to visit your site again, o even bookmark it, and refer them to their friends.

Because a downloadable freebie is an electronic document which can be shared, it is wise to include a link to your website, in case this document is passed on from a user to an outsider. For example, if you decide to use an Ebook, you should write after an article about Local Area Networks LANs For more information on how to setup a LAN visit www.yoursite.com

Adding Free Quality content will dramatically benefit your credibility amongst webusers and will help you create a relationship with them. It is strongly recommended that you update your freebies on a regular basis, and if you already know when you might be able to release a new Free Download, it will help if you tell them when these new Freebies will be released (eg. New E-book “How to build a PC from Scratch” Available FREE from October 15)

Today’s world can rightly be considered as the world of innovation and involvement of technology. If you want to stay in business today, you need to be innovative. If you are not careful about such things, you will not be able to face the competition today. The number of web sites on the World Wide Web is an indicator of this fact. As the number of web sites is increasing, so is the level of competition that is existing between these web sites. Considering this fact, it is important that you use the technology which is state of the art. You also need to be creative while planning your own web site. E-Commerce20 Jul 2007 08:45 pm

by William Robert Wood

The first thing that you need to understand is how e-commerce works: A consumer, or potential customer, accesses the Internet and navigates to your Web site. If you have a brick-and-mortar business, you’ll want to have vital information on your Web site so that your customers can find you; this would be a static Web site. This may include current products that are on special as well as other product listings that make consumers believe that your business is where they want to make their purchase and is both appealing and a good value to the consumer.

Likewise, if you have an online business, you’ll want to convince your potential customers or Web site browsers to make a purchase for the products you are selling from your Web site. Once consumers decide that they’re ready to make a purchase, they’ll need to be guided to an online transaction or secure Web server so that you can collect their personal and payment information using a secure encryption method. It is possible to create a Web site that can collect credit card and other sensitive data without offering encryption; however, most savvy shoppers will never enter credit card information into a nonsecure Web site. Therefore, we highly discourage any attempt to create a simple shopping cart that does not include secure socket layer encryption of personal or sensitive data. Operating a Web site without encryption for personal or credit card data is a sure-fire formula for disaster and loss of potential customers.

To enable your Web site for e-commerce, you must install and configure your products in a shopping cart. It is important to recognize the elements of a credit card transaction: your Web site contains the product pricing, description, and images, and the shopping cart is embedded into your Web site and stores the dynamic data regarding your product. When he or she is ready to “check out” from the Web site store, the customer typically clicks a “checkout” button and is taken to the encrypted version of the company Web site. The customer will typically continue with the checkout process by calculating shipping costs, entering personal information such as credit card data and a shipping address, and securely completing the transaction. All credit card companies charge a percentage of the sale as an overhead fee for using their credit processing services. The added service layer between your credit card processor and your Web site is known as a transaction service or gateway service. This layer recognizes an e-commerce transaction, performs immediate credit card authorization, and processes the transaction. While this service is not uncommon, it does add a layer of cost to operating your Web site. There are two distinct possibilities that account for how your order may be processed: after the order has been placed, all of the necessary information travels through a private gateway toward the “transaction/gateway processing network.” This processing network is where the transaction is approved or denied, depending on the credit history of the consumer and the funds available. Although this may seem like a long process, it takes only a few seconds to complete. For the business owner, offering an e-commerce service is an added service and an added fee.

Another lower-cost option is to eliminate the transaction/gateway processing network. Many Web site owners prefer to manually “run” credit card payments through their desktop credit card processing/authorization systems and merely use the shopping cart as an order processing and retrieval system, where the credit card is processed manually after the online session is completed. This low-cost alternative eliminates the cost of the middle-tier authorization and does not affect what the consumer sees after completing the checkout process. With both options, the consumer should be sent an order confirmation by e-mail.

As mentioned, you will be able to use many different systems of payment to accommodate your online transactions, depending on how many transactions you average in one day. No matter what type of payment method you choose, you need to ensure that it is encrypted and secure so that the privacy and personal information of your customers is never jeopardized. As a reminder, never operate a Web site where you collect personal data or financial information without offering a secure and encrypted connection.

Traffic generation on your website is an essential thing for the survival of your business in the online world. The more frequently your website is visited, the more chances of you getting sales and god results.

Keyword usage is one of the best techniques to generate traffic. Always keep a track of the most sought after keywords, words which people are more likely to use or type in while searching for something they need. Use keywords which give you more quality traffic, always give a month to test the usage of keywords, then retain the ones which give good results and leave the ones which did not yield anything.

The quality of traffic coming towards you should be important, keep in mind the rate of returns of your keywords, and the conversion rate if each keyword into a prospective customer The layout of your website is another important aspect of attracting visitors to your website. Keep the layouts clean and attractive, with emphasizing on what you offer, rather then cluttering too many designs and colors on your website. A first look at your website should spell business, your website should give a serious look which would make the visitor explore further.

To be ahead of the competition, it is mandatory to know how to reach up to your prospective customers, and how to attract them towards your website. Therefore, in order to keep up with the competition, one should keep monitoring and tracking what gives you the best results.

Blogging15 Jul 2007 08:29 pm

You may be surprised to learn that you can actually make a lot of extra cash, even up to a full time job, just by creating or writing blogs, about pretty much any subject you like. This post talks introduces writing blogs as a money making technique and some advice as to how to make sure you are making the most from your blogs. I will have further posts later about other things you should know about this method.

I’m assuming you already know what a blog is. If you dont check out wikipedias definition here.

I know a lot of people that enjoy either blogging for themselves or writing comments on social networks sites like Facebook, MySpace etc. What you may not know is that you can actually turn this hobby into a money making method. Even if you don’t already blog, the concept of essentially being able to write about stuff you know about, stuff you like or even stuff you want to know about, and then getting paid for this, is really pretty attractive.

So the question is, how do you make money from blogging. Well, you can actually get a job for someone else who will pay you either a salary or some sort of fee to write blogs but the most common and most profitable way is to write your own blogs that you then monetize. By this I mean that you get visitors of your blog to either click on Google Adsense or other pay per click advertising, or you get visitors to purchase something through an affiliate link - usually something related to your blog of course. So in essence, you make money from blogs through affiliate marketing.

There are many important things to know about blogging for extra money. Some key things to ensure success include:

1. Make sure that the content on your site is attractive, not from a pure graphics point of view but mainly from what is written in your posts. You need to give value to your visitors so that they will want to read through your posts, come back & visit your blog at other times, recommend your blog to others and so on. The old adage definitely applies here: content is king!

2. Like all parts of affiliate marketing, you need to spend time doing keyword research. You need to find a niche subject that is getting a lot of searches in the search engines and that doesnt have a great deal of competition. You should find a subject that also has good affiliate programs linked to it so you can point visitors to them to make some money. Ill do a separate post at a later time about how to do good keyword research. Or you can do a little cheating by grabbing a tool called Extreme Conversions which promises to locate niche keywords for you.

3. You need to generate traffic for your blog. Its no good creating the best blog with the best content, without getting visitors to your blog. There is a whole science behind doing this successfully. I will create more posts about this topic soon.

4. Do not rely on Google Adsense for your monetization. Unless you plan to have hundreds of blogs, these days the money you can make through Google Adsense can be very limited. The best part about Google Adsense is the ease of creating these links on your blogs. There is even a plug-in for Wordpress (the most common blogging software used to create blogs) that allows you to do it automatically.

Pros:

* Blogging can be one of the more enjoyable ways of making money through affiliate marketing, especially if you blog about things that you enjoy and you enjoy networking with other people about the same topic;

* With software like Wordpress, and Fantastico (most web hosting companies offer you this in their web hosting packages), it couldnt be easier to set up a blog

Blogs are so much easier to create than other websites and because of the nature of blogs, your posts can be just natural writing instead of formal sales copy you often need to put on websites;

* Blogs work for you even when you arent there - while you are sleeping, while you are on holidays and so on;

Cons:

* Blogging for extra money is not a fast method of making money by any stretch of the imagination. You need time to create the blogs, optimise them for search engine, write or source good content and then promote them. You then need to research good affiliate marketing programs and create content that will motivate a visitor to click on your affiliate link. It typically takes about 6-12months before you start seeing good money being made from any blog and thats if you promote it correctly;

* Depending how successful you are at any one subject, you typically have to have a number of blogs running at one time in order to create good money. This can be time consuming and tedious if you have created blogs on subjects you dont really enjoy but you chose because they are good money makers;

* There is a lot to learn about blogging successfully. There are many bloggers out there that don’t know how to do this well and so do not make much money and soon get discouraged.

For Australians:

There isnt really any impact (good or bad) that I can think of for Australian bloggers. One thing I guess has some bearing is that this method of making money, like most affiliate marketing, isn’t as huge as it is in the US & the UK, which means that there could be more potential here. However, this is only if you do purely topics for Australians, otherwise you are going to be competing on the world stage anyway. And even if you are doing purely topics for Australians, you may be limiting your overall market, as there are many more internet users in the US/UK than in Australia. However, having said all this, some of the best known bloggers in the world are from Australia, so that is something to take into account.

As above, there is much to learn about blogging to do it successfully and to make good money from it. There are lots of good websites out there that give you great advice and there are some great eBooks and mentoring programs that can help you fast track your learning and give you personal advice.

Working online or in the IT field involves dealing with technical jargon. Luckily, you can find an IT glossary for business managers at http://www.bestpricecomputers.co.uk/glossary/ which you can use for free.

On the glossary, you can find extensive definitions and explanations of phrases you may encounter while doing business online. For example, you can find entries for technical phrases such as “Enterprise Application Integration” and “Dedicated Hosting.” The glossary offers the information in a direct and understandable manner.

I recommend bookmarking the glossary, so that you can use it as a reference if you encounter any unfamiliar terminology during your online endeavors.
